Levels and Scope - Education & Training Syllabus
Our education and training framework provides significant opportunities for anyone involved in car fleet management to acquire new, or to develop existing skills, knowledge and competence to standards acknowledged within the fleet industry. It is a three tier structure, using, job-based assignments, examinations or projects as the basis for assessment - at Introductory, Certificate and Diploma award levels.

Structure - Route Map to Professional Competence
The syllabus at both Certificate and Diploma level is comprised of comprehensive core modules linked to job-based assignments or projects designed to assess specific competence elements and their application to the participant’s car fleet operation (or, in the case of support service providers, the fleet operations of their clients). This provides a flexible learning process leading to tangible results by creating opportunities for individuals to meet their own development needs and adding value to their (or their client’s) fleet operation.
The Introductory level programme caters for the training and development needs of new or relatively recent entrants to the car fleet function, in administrative, sales or service delivery roles.
Certificate level programme covers the basic principles underpinning effective fleet management at an operational level and is designed to meet the core needs of fleet administrators, managers and service support providers responsible for the effective identification and delivery of either some or all fleet policy elements.
Those at Diploma level programme covers advanced techniques, skills and knowledge required for the strategic and operational management of the entire fleet function and provides an opportunity for experienced fleet practitioners to develop their existing competence base.
Recognition and Awards
Modules at each level have competence-based assessment criteria and, in addition to leading to externally accredited awards are directly linked to eligibility for upgrading within the Institute membership structure. The methods of assessment are:
-
a job-based assignment at Introductory level
-
job-based assignments and written examinations at Certificate level
-
fleet-based projects and a written dissertation at Diploma level.
Exemptions may be awarded (at Introductory and Certificate level only) against the syllabus criteria for individuals who can produce evidence of having attained relevant, recognised qualifications and/or significant achievements in a past or present car fleet operation.
Programmes at all three levels are externally moderated and endorsed by (and participants registered with) the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) – part of the City & Guilds Group.
