ACFO

ACFO was founded in 1972 and has established itself as the UK's leading representative body for fleet operators.

When ACFO was founded the concept of fleet management as a serious business issue was still in its infancy. Today it is an integral part of the majority of businesses in both the UK and internationally.

ACFO is a non-profit making organisation and represents the interests of businesses, which operate cars and vans as part of their normal commercial activities. There are some 800 members, collectively responsible for over 500,000 vehicles in the UK fleet market.

ACFO's role

ACFO provides both a national representation platform, and regional networking opportunities, to support its key objective of improving the discipline and craft of fleet management, and its status.

Nationally, ACFO is run by a six-strong board of directors who all have many years of fleet industry experience.

ACFO then splits the UK into nine regions. Each regional group holds regular meetings - typically four times a year - which provide excellent networking opportunities for members to discuss topics and problems with each other and discover and then implement best practice solutions. Meetings also attract well-known industry speakers to highlight and lead debate on issues impacting on fleet operations.

As well as providing an active forum for fleet decision-makers, to discuss and promote best practice in fleet management, ACFO also represents the interests of vehicle fleet operators, to a range of organisations and bodies including vehicle manufacturers, service company suppliers and Government departments and agencies, including HM Treasury, HM Revenue & Customs, the DVLA and the Department for Transport. ACFO is also frequently invited to represent the views of members on a number of Government advisory and steering groups.

Additionally, via ACFO's website, members have free online access to a wealth of industry news, advice on key issues, access to an array of fleet management documents and a range of other information not available elsewhere.

ACFO membership

Historically, ACFO's membership was dominated by businesses that employed full-time professional fleet or transport managers.

But, today the changing face of fleet management means that vehicle responsibility falls into many different departments within both public and private sector organisations.

As a result, ACFO membership is drawn from businesses where fleet management maybe the responsibility of employees with an administrative, financial, HR, procurement or, indeed, a variety of other job functions.
